Safeguarding & Client Wellbeing
At Mill Park Therapy, your safety, dignity and emotional wellbeing are central to the therapeutic relationship. I aim to offer a confidential, respectful and non-judgemental space where individuals and couples can explore difficult experiences at their own pace.
My professional commitments
I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work in accordance with its Ethical Framework. This guides my commitment to client autonomy, clear boundaries, confidentiality, professional responsibility and the avoidance of harm. I undertake regular clinical supervision and continuing professional development, and I work within the limits of my training and competence.
Confidentiality and its limits
What you share in therapy is treated as confidential and handled in accordance with my privacy notice and applicable data protection law. Confidentiality is not absolute. In exceptional circumstances, I may need to share relevant information where this is legally required or ethically justified, including where there is a serious risk of harm to you or another person, or a safeguarding concern involving a child or adult at risk.
I consider any decision to disclose information carefully. Where it is appropriate and safe, I will discuss the concern and intended next steps with you beforehand. Any disclosure will be limited to what is necessary and directed to an appropriate service or authority.
Safeguarding in individual & couples therapy
Safeguarding includes taking concerns about abuse, neglect, exploitation, domestic abuse, coercive or controlling behaviour, and serious risks to safety seriously. I recognise that these issues can arise during individual or couples sessions, or may affect children and other people connected to clients. If concerns emerge, I will respond sensitively, consider immediate safety and follow relevant safeguarding procedures.
Getting help in a crisis
Mill Park Therapy is an appointment-based psychotherapy service, not an emergency or crisis-response service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999. For urgent but non-emergency medical advice in Wales, contact NHS 111 Wales. You can also contact your GP or the relevant NHS mental health services.
Professional Standards
My safeguarding approach is informed by the BACP Ethical Framework and the Wales Safeguarding Procedures. You are welcome to ask about confidentiality, safety or the way concerns are handled before or during our work together.
